AM I A MEAN MUM

It started a few months ago, when my youngest son Ellis asked for a new XBOX "war"
game and seeing as his dad plays them with him i didn't see the harm..... My mistake......
About a week ago i was putting some stuff in his room while he was playing his game
on his own (dad was out) and i heared some of the things they were saying in this game...
Which i wont name.... but i have to be honest for a game that says an 8 year old can play
the language was terrible i knew he was saying some new things when he was in a mood
or angry but i assumed they were things hes picked up at school not on his xbox, and his
behaviour had changed slightly but again i put it down to a new year at school, new
teacher and just general new stresses of having to work harder this year but when i heard
how they were speaking on this game i was horrified.
Both myself and Lee (husband/daddy) agreed to get rid of all the boys war games and any
game with the rating 12+ (our oldest plays those games hes 11 almost).
My son who is 8 of course is upset and now I feel bad because I feel like i should have never
let him play them in the first place then he wouldn't be so hurt now I've taken them away.
Its been about a week since hes been able to play any of these games and we have seen a
huge change in his behaviour, for the better. We turned in all the "bad" games for "good" games.
I do feel now though that I am isolating him from his friends as they all talk about these games and what levels they have passed and he cant interact with them about it now but in my heart I know we made the right choice!
I just wanted to share this emotional time as a mummy and maybe see if other mum's have gone through this?
